Child Custody Matters

If court ordered mediation fails, then the Court can appoint a Guardian Ad Litem or attorney for your children. You will be required to pay that attorney's fees, as well as the costs of any additional studies required by the Court. Examples of those types of studies include assessments of the child's living conditions, psychological evaluations, or therapy.

In some situations, the Court's primary objective will be to obtain an independent evaluation from the mental health professionals assigned to the case.

When the custody matters start to involve a Guardian Ad Litem, the process becomes very expensive for the parties. Ultimately, a trial will be held on the matter of placement of the child and the Court will determine the legal custody and physical placement of the children.
